I've been trying to stay creative with some personal projects during lockdown. Recently I've started to recreate some of my favourite sounding songs to further my recording and mixing skills, and to test the capabilities of my studio space. Here's a clip of me recording a take for a recreation of "Fix You" by Coldplay, along with a rough mix. I chose this song especially for the large and pumping sounding drums. After recording all of the other instruments at home, I experimented with different micing positions for the drums and the room to try and get that big, pumping sound. And I've got to say I'm very happy how this has turned out, especially for a rough mix! I'm hoping to post more of these types of videos going forward, and somewhere down the line I'll be able to get my hands on a decent camera as opposed to filming on a potato (my old iPad)... #drums #cover #coldplay #recording #mixing #studio #drummer #mapex #zildjian #astonmicrophones #vicfirth
